USS Yosemite Plaque will be dedicated on March 20, 2027.
Bill Krug is pleased to announce that the USS Yosemite Plaque will be installed at the National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW). The NMPW is a Texas Historical Commission property operated by the Admiral Nimitz Foundation.
As many of you may know, Howard Fields led the effort to make this a reality, though it has had a few speed bumps. Howard has kept this project moving forward, making the USS Yosemite Plaque a prestigious artifact for our Association. This Plaque represents the courage, excellent performance and award-winning military support and ship repair accomplished by the USS Yosemite Crew, spanning decades of service and steadfast duty to our country.
I commend Howard for taking ownership and making it happen. It’s an accomplishment we can all be proud to be associated with as the crew of the “Busy Lady.” This post confirms the Plaque has been created and will be officially installed at the NMPW.
The NMPW is located in Fredericksburg, Texas. It’s the boyhood home of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Nimitz served as Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Fleet, and was soon afterward named Commander in Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas, during World War II.
National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW)
Today, the NMPW is recognized as a world-class cultural institution. A Smithsonian Affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, it offers the nation’s most comprehensive account of World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater.
The Plaque dedication is tentatively scheduled for March 20, 2027, at 311 E Austin St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. Phone: (830) 997-8600. All association members and their guests are invited. Howard has done a terrific job. Thank you, Howard!

Yosemite Sam is the traditional mascot of the US Navy ship that bears his name. In 1979, Warner Brother Studios gave permission to reproduce Yosemite Sam's likeness for the USS Yosemite use.
