I didn’t serve on this ship but my Dad did. His name is Peter W. Amirault. He’s no longer with us, Dad passed in 1996. My Mom, Helen, is still with us, She is currently living in Susquehana, Pa.
I served aboard the USS Yosemite from 1966 to 1969, being assigned to the carpenter shop as a DC3. I met a lot of great guys during that time and have stayed in touch with several of them! I took the photo of Yosemite, shown above, from a motor whaleboat on the way in to ‘the beach’ in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in 1968. I was very surprised and pleased to learn that this photo of her was used for the USS Yosemite Association’s commemorative plaque now on permanent display in the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Heritage Center in Washington D.C. It was a privilege and an honor to have served on her and to have made life-long friends with many of my old shipmates!
Served on board 1977 to 1980
I served aboard USS yosemity AD19 from April 1946 to November 1947. I board the Yo-yo in New Jersey where ammunition was unloaded and the we sailed to the Brooklyn Navy yard.. This was th greatest sight of my young life, sailing in the New York harbor within sight of New York City and the awesome sight of th Statue of Liberty. There were a great many passengers who seved in the Pacific during WW 2 and were going to be discharge for ther great service. A welcome home boat came within the site of the YoYo with waving flags and singing, Welcome home sailer boys.Another great site was sailing under the Brooklyn Bridge to the Brooklyn Navy Yard for repairs in dry dock. A great experience of my young life. My name at the of my service aboard the YoYo was John Chludzinski SK3. I would like to hear from old shipmates.
I served from 1965 to 1967 as Electricians Mate
I served on the USS Yosemite 1970 thru 1972 and would like to reunite with crew members. I especially want to find 2nd Class petty officer Henry A. Sharp MR2. Please send me information as to how I can join the association.
